How To Improve Your Broadband Speed

If you're having performance issues, check that the white coaxial cable that screws into the back of the hub is on securely. If you take the small spanner that was provided with your hub and just turn it clockwise... This will ensure you don't over-tighten it. Ycan also use fingers if you don't have one of these small spanners, just to make sure it's secure. That will then be giving the hub the best possible signal.

Having multiple devices connected throughout the home can definitely make the Internet feel slower, especially if anyone's doing some heavy downloading at peak times, which would be in the evenings or at weekends. If you have any non-critical downloads to do, we advise doing them in the small hours of the morning.

To ensure you're getting the best possible connection between your hub and your PC, best to use an Ethernet cable. They do come in multiple colours. If you plug it into the back of the Super Hub, it will make a distinct click. And then plug the other end into your computer. If you don't have one of these Ethernet cables, you can pick one up from any computer store.

When using wireless broadband, you need to take into account where the wireless comes from. If let's say on the Virgin Media Super Hub, it comes from the front where the Virgin badge is. On this Super Hub, it comes from this strip at the front. Like any wireless router or Super Hub, these devices need to be unobstructed.

Having it next to large pieces of furniture, fish tanks, behind the sofa, these aren't good for it. It needs to be in an open space.

Other devices can hamper the signal of your wireless connection. Things like cordless phones, baby monitors, even your next-door neighbour's wireless router.

What I would recommend is placing your Virgin Media Super Hub at least a metre away from any large object or electrical device. Ensuring that it's not on the floor will give you the best possible wireless connection.

One of the most common ways to improve your wireless signal is to change the wireless channel. This will stop any interference from the surrounding area and other routers.

The next thing you need to do is check that your PC or laptop is using the most up-to-date security software. This will stop any viruses or nasties infecting your computer and slowing it down.

The last thing you need to do is make sure that your operating system is up-to-date. If you're using a Windows-based machine, you need to make sure that Windows Update is set to automatic.

And that's it. That will keep your PC running safe and secure.
